Experience

Now in Idaho Falls!!! I an a professional tutor with five years experience tutoring with 100+ Tutoring & Club Z/NM Tutors, Albuquerque, NM. I'm also familiar with college entrance tests and can help students improve their testing scores on SAT, ACT, GED, and ASVAB. I can also help students at whatever level work up their test scores to succeed in elementary, junior high & high school exams or to pass the GED & get into college! I'm now up-to-date on algebra 1, algebra 2, and pre-calculus/trig, & can also help on the math portions of the SAT & ACT (& even the GRE?!). Of course, I'm also conversant with the writing & reading components of those college entrance exams & would enjoy helping students psych out the exams! (And what about the ASVAB? Yes, the ASVAB, too!) I also have experience with special needs tutoring through Accessibility Services at the UNM. I'd enjoy tutoring college students of all levels and abilities in writing and reading, composition, literature, philosophy, or general "cultural literacy." I was a TA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for four years; and subsequently taught college composition and literature courses at the University of Louisville. I also recently taught a 300-level philosophy course at the UNM. I have tutored students for SAT & ACT exams. I have some familiarity with the GED & ASVAB testing materials. I can help students improve their scores in these areas, too. I am not fluent in Spanish, but have some familiarity with and reading knowledge of Spanish, German, Russian, and French. I'd welcome the opportunity to work with ESL students in any language. I also enjoy working with elementary, middle school and high school students in algebra and geometry as well as writing and reading programs. Beyond all that, I also think tutoring can be (and is...) FUN!. And I hope to make learning fun for students (and me, too!).

Hobbies

I've recently published a book and several articles on 20th C. philosophy and I've also helped edit a novel for publication. So, besides tutoring, I can also help you edit your work for publication or for fun! I also enjoy working with young people who are still exploring and finding their interests. Kids should discover that learning is FUN! and should discover how to learn both within the public school system and on their own. So besides helping you pass your classes and get into a college of your choice, I can also help students learn how to learn and discover how to educate themselves. Which is always the best way to learn!
